Clearing out stale orders - cost 41 billion

I have let some orders go stale at levels hundreds of millions above the lowest Sell Price.

Cleaning out these Sell Orders that are woefully mispriced will cost 41 billion isk this month.

Given the higher levels of competition i am experiences it will mean i make a loss of 14-19 billion isk after all costs.

The Golden Rule

I have a golden rule to keep all my orders at the best sale price.

The exceptions to this rule is if the more competitive price has a short time before it expires or is so cheap that someone will buy it.

Every day i am updating my Sell Orders to ensure all are the best price on their markets.

But, i am only human and i do end up buying items in Jita that prove to be over priced and so around my trade hubs sit items that a overpriced by several hundred million and not the cheapest on offer.  And i have let those items build rather than deal with them on my daily update.

I should of course swallow my pride and reduce their prices to make them competitive - but i don't.  And now the day of reckoning is upon me.

Must enter 2026 with a clean set of Sell Orders

However, i do have a platinum rule (just made that up) = by the end of the year my order book and accounts generally needs to be clean (that has always been the case, so perhaps not totally made up).

I want to enter the New Year with a clean book and no burdensome carry overs from the prior year.

Action taken

Therefore, I have decided to do this clear out this weekend and then will do a final clean up in the last week of December.

Going through my trade locations one by one, it will cost me 41 billion isk.  So a decent hit and with the rising competition in the Regional Trading markets this is a months worth of profits, likely more these days.  Will likely push me into a loss for November to the tune of 14-19 billion isk.

The way i am honest with myself is to point out to myself that i have been overstating my wealth by 41 billion isk.  The lesson here is to deal with over priced Sell Orders early.  i.e. stick to the Golden Rule.

My first estimate before i went through it all was that it would come to 10bn.  That proved to be somewhat wide of the mark.

That all said, when you embark on this sort of an exercise then everything gets written down that needs to me.  No point going half measures.

Most is down to a few items that were wildly mispriced by a few billion and then a number of items that just needed reducing by a few hundred million.

I always knew Jita would be an issue and i knew Dodixie had a few but the extent of both those surprised me.  And surprised by the overall level in each of my other Trading Locations.  Seems i just let it build over a number of months!

Anyway, as i write this line everything is all square now and i am 41 billion poorer!
